Voor vandaag heb me samen met veel ander internationale studenten opgegeven voor de Discover Auckland trip. Visit famous Auckland landmarks of Mission Bay, Victoria Park, Parnell Domain etc. Met de bus vertrokken we om 10 uur om langs vele plekken te gaan. Als eerste de Ankoranga campus (andere AUT campus buiten de stad), daarna de Victoria Park Markets met allemaal kleine kraampjes en vervolgens naar de andere kant van Auckland naar Bastion Point. Na dit momument op de heuvel gehad te hebben zijn we een ijsje gaan halen bij beste ijsmaker van Nieuwe Zeeland, en dat was heerlijk. Daarna door naar Parnell buurt en nog even gestopt voor het museum (Auckland Domain). Om 2 uur waren we al thuis en ben daarna de stad ingegaan om tickets te halen voor de film die ik s´avonds wilde zien. Bij terugkomst vroegen Sara en haar vriendin of ik mee wou eten en het was lekker.
Daarna ben ik naar de film gegaan die ook van het festival was. Het begon met een korte film (± 10 minuten) van Nederlanse bodem. Het ging over konijnen in een fokboerderij. Het mooie aan deze film was dat hij achterstevoren gespeeld werd. Wel grappig, zit je in Nieuw Zeeland en krijg je een Hollandse film voor je neus.
Daarna begon The Wayward Cloud. “The most-talked about film at the Berlin Film Festival this year was the latest from festival regular Tsai Ming-liang (Goodbye Dragon Inn). Tsai's deadpan studies of alienated souls adrift in a usually sodden Taipei have always worked a delicate territory between existential pathos and absurd comedy. With The Wayward Cloud Tsai jettisons the delicacy to deliver a film that fluctuates wildly between broad camp tomfoolery and an even more desolate view of pornography than you'll find in Lukas Moodyson's Hole in the Heart. Playing characters they've played for Tsai before, Lee Kang-sheng is now a porn star, hard at work in the apartment above his old friend and new love Chen Shiang-chyi, who remains unaware of his new profession until the film's gruesome conclusion. Touching scenes of their mutual apprehension are intercut with scenes of Lee engaged in bizarre acts with watermelons and out-of-it women, not to mention lewd dance numbers lip-synched to vintage Chinese torch songs. “An in-your-face mixture of brilliance and false notes.”” De film was erg raar en het is onmogelijk om uit te leggen hoe en wat de film was about.
